Promoting the Cider Industry as a Whole at Portland Cider House

Did you know that our Hawthorne location, Portland Cider House, has 28 taps? Most of the time, more than half of those taps feature guest cideries from around the Northwest, such as 2 Towns, Swift Cider, ^5 Cider, Bull Run Cider and more. Here at Portland Cider Company, we feel this well-rounded and diverse taplist is essential to promoting the cider industry as a whole.

Portland Cider House was founded with the intention of being a resource for anyone to come and explore cider. There’s 28 taps! Cider of every different style – fruit, spiced, hopped, traditional, dry, sweet, modern, etc. – and cider from several different cider makers here in the Northwest. You can get a flight of cider and find what you like.

In an effort to promote this concept of “Community over Competition,” and to help you learn more about cider from here in the Northwest, we’re putting together a regular cider tastings schedule. You will start to see a lot more cider tastings, release parties and more hosted at Portland Cider House! Subscribe to our PCH Facebook events to stay in the loop. For now, here’s what we have coming up this November & December:

September 7, 2016 (Portland, OR) – Prost! & Portland Cider Company have partnered together to deliver a variety of cider events for Washington Cider Week, September 8-18, in the Seattle area. Whether partying at Feierabend after Seattle Cider Summit, making custom snakebite blends, or simply bobbing for apples, everyone will find a way to celebrate cider with both brands during this epic week.

“We’re excited to be working with a restaurant group that has so much history here in Seattle,” says Lynda Parrish, co-owner of Portland Cider Company. “I think we’ve been able to create some creative and fun ways to tie in German beer with cider, along with tying our two great cities together.”

Mya Rohrbach, Prost! German pubs Chief Operations Officer, states “While we are known for our great selection of German biers, we have cider options too because of its huge popularity.  Teaming up with Portland Cider Company has been a great idea since they make such delicious cider, and besides our four pubs here in Seattle, we have two German bars in Portland.  We are truly looking forward to participating in Washington Cider Week.”

Portland Cider Company announces 1st ever Snakebite Showdown

Portland Cider Company announces 1st ever Snakebite Showdown

A celebration and collaboration of Oregon Cider Week & Portland Beer Week

June 15, 2016 (Portland, OR) – With Portland Beer Week and Oregon Cider Week overlapping, starting tomorrow June 16, Portland Cider Company announces their first annual Snakebite Showdown.  Fat Head’s Brewery, Pelican Brewing Company, Ecliptic Brewing and Fort George Brewery have partnered with Portland Cider Company to go head-to-head in this competition for the best quintessential English drink – the snakebite! The competition will run June 16th though the 30th, with voting online.

The snakebite combos will be available at multiple locations, including both of Portland Cider Company’s taproom locations and both Ecliptic and Fat Head’s Brewery Portland restaurants. Fat Head’s location in the Pearl District is hosting a kick-off event on June 16th, all-day.

Traditionally, the snakebite is a half lager, half cider mixed drink, which is very popular in English countries and is loved by Portland Cider fans. With the owners of Portland Cider Company’s background in the United Kingdom, this competition is particularly close to the heart.

“We couldn’t call ourselves a Northwest cidery based on English traditions without having a snakebite on our board – it just wouldn’t be right. So with all the amazing craft beer talent here in Oregon, it seemed like this competition was a natural fit to tie together both Oregon Cider Week and Portland Beer Week.” said Lynda Parrish, co-owner of Portland Cider Co. and native of Somerset, England.

SNAKEBITE SHOWDOWN BEER + CIDER COMBOS:

Pelican Brewing Co. – Blonde Apple
A delightfully refreshing snakebite, Portland Cider Company’s Apple is blended with Pelican Brewing Company’s classic Kiwanda Cream Ale to give you a dangerously drinkable beverage for the summer.

Fat Head’s Portland – Passion Pucker
To truly tantalize your taste buds we have combined Portland Ciders Passion Fruit with Fat Head’s hop forward Kettle Sour #4. With sweet fruitiness of passion fruit balanced with the tart hoppiness and flavors of orange, tangerine and pine of the sour, you will want to drink this snakebite even on the hottest of Portland summer days!

Ecliptic Brewing – Capella Cruiser
Representing both the sun and the deep corners of outer space, Portland Cider Company Maui Cruiser is combined with Ecliptic Brewing’s Capella Porter.  The result is a bright and lively snakebite with sweet aromas and a tropical roast finish!

Fort George Brewery – Traditional English Snakebite
A tried & true favorite, blending together the bold American stout from Fort George with the traditional English cider in Portland Cider Co.’s Kinda Dry.

For full details on the Snakebite Showdown, visit www.PortlandCider.com/snakebite. To vote, share with friends, or stay up-to-date on competition details, RSVP at the Snakebite Showdown Facebook event page.
