Add Community to Your Gift List
Whoever decided to put Giving Tuesday smack dab in the middle of the holiday shopping season is kind of a genius. After all, what better time to look beyond your usual gift list of family and friends and think about giving back to your whole community? Our community here in Portland is pretty fantastic, made up of people, businesses, and nonprofits that work to keep our hometown strong.
Community means a lot to us here at Portland Cider. In fact, it’s everything. We wouldn't be here without the support of our crew, our cider fans, the people who grow the fruit that ends up in our ciders… It takes a whole lot of people to keep our cider flowing! And that’s especially true for our PDX Community Cider, because it simply wouldn’t exist without the generous fruit donated by people all around our community.
Right now, that cider—made from your local backyard fruit—is flowing in our taprooms and on store shelves throughout our community. And every can or pint of it sold increases our donation to one of our favorite local nonprofits, Partners for a Hunger-Free Oregon. This year, we expect to donate more than $13,000 to their Hunger-Free Schools program, which helps make sure every child in Oregon has access to food every day.
We think it’s important that we be active members of our community, so we participate in promotions and giveaways with other businesses, and we give back to organizations that help keep Portland strong. This holiday season, when you run into sold-out items and shipping delays, remember that when you shop at your local stores you’re supporting your own community. And think about adding a nonprofit or two to your gift list, because your support will help your own community thrive!
