What to Do On the West Side
Every day we get a little closer to flinging open the doors of our new Westside Pub! It’s coming along nicely, and we can’t wait to welcome our Beaverton fans in for cider, food and fun. In the meantime, we’ve been busy exploring the West Side, and while we still have a long list of places we want to check out, here are a few we’ve loved so far:
Despite the absolutely stellar kids’ play area, this isn’t just a park for the little ones. This park has a gorgeous bridge, wetlands full of wildlife, and 1.6 miles of hiking trails over gentle hills. Take a picnic, do some bird-watching, bring your bike, do some geocaching… This is a great place to spend a few hours.
Patricia Reser Center for the Arts
This brand-new facility is located in the heart of Beaverton, close to transit and open for business! The lineup of shows is eclectic and fresh, so grab your tickets for whatever grabs you: choral music, jazz, storytelling, a symphony, piano, or a show from the impressive Portland Youth Philharmonic. And in between shows, check out the art gallery and the public art installations surrounding the space.
Just around the corner from the Reser Center is one of the best food cart pods anywhere. There is truly something for everyone here, with more than 30 different vendors to choose from. The site hosts music and events regularly, in case you need an extra excuse to visit…
This beloved Portland beer hall has a west side outpost with more than 80 taps of beer, and our very own English Pub Cider (while supplies last!). The huge oval bar is a gorgeous centerpiece to the open space, and outdoor seating adds a lot of extra space to enjoy their drinks and food.
This direct-from-Tokyo ramen spot will have you planning your trip to Japan by the end of the meal. Afuri chose Portland for its US locations because of our outstanding water supply (seriously, we have the best water here!), along with the availability of fresh, delicious local ingredients. Everything here is over-the-top delicious, but we especially love the hazelnut tantanmen.
Browsing this market is a great way to spend a sunny Saturday morning. Be sure and hit up Unger Farms’ stand in June for those incredible Hood strawberries, and—you may have heard we like donuts—don’t miss NOLA Doughnuts’ fresh La’ssants! Take a load off after shopping dozens of vendor booths at the adjacent Beaverton City Park, complete with a water playground for a cool-down.
If you haven’t been to one of our own Minor League Baseball team’s home games, have you really experienced the West Side? We say no. Good thing their season runs from April to September, so you have plenty of chances to cheer on our own Hops at Ron Tonkin Field. And you know what pairs perfectly with baseball? Portland Cider’s own Squeeze Play cider, now on tap at both Portland Cider locations! (See what we did there?)
We’re so excited to get to know more of the people and places that make Beaverton such a great place to live, work and play, when we open our Westside Pub in the weeks ahead on the corner of Murray Blvd. and TV Highway! What are some of your favorite west-side hangouts? Let us know all the can’t-miss spots that we should check out!
