Community: It’s In Our Roots
Community is something that’s always on our minds at Portland Cider. It’s at the heart of what we do, and it’s right there in our name. After all, we make craft cider with a mission to foster a community that expects more from the cider they drink, inspired by the city we call home. Our taprooms, crew, cider-making standards, and the Portland artisans that inspire us are all about bringing our Portland community closer.
As a local business, we believe it’s our responsibility to be active participants in our community, supporting other area businesses and giving to nonprofits and partners that have a real impact on the people and the environment around us. And none of this can happen without YOU.
We see this in action every day, as we get ready to produce our sixth annual PDX Community Cider, a collaboration between Portland Cider and the whole Portland Metro community. Every day, we greet people at our Clackamas taproom bringing crates, boxes, and bags overflowing with apples, pears, and berries to donate. We wash it, press the heck out of it, and make some really delicious cider, thanks to all these generous donations. We’ll give 10% of the sales of this very special crowd-sourced cider to Hunger-Free Schools, working to ensure every child in Oregon has enough to eat. Last year, the donation was $12,500, and this year, we’re aiming to raise even more. We couldn’t do this without YOU. (Want to donate fruit? Learn more here!)
Just this summer, we helped raise $25,000 for Oregon Parks Forever through the Buy One, Plant One program, along with our partners at Stoller Wine Group, Pelican Brewing, and Sunriver Brewing—and YOU. That money will be spent planting evergreen seedlings in Oregon forests.
You have been our partner every step of the way. Last summer, you helped us donate $2,500 to Blanchet House for COVID relief meals. Just last weekend, you came and enjoyed Cider + Donuts with us to support Store to Door of Oregon’s efforts to get groceries to people who need a hand, where we raised over $1,000. Together, over the years, we’ve helped support dozens of organizations around Portland, and we’ll keep it up because nurturing our roots only makes our community stronger. Thank you for helping us celebrate and elevate Portland—we can’t do any of this without YOU!
