Hunger-Free Schools Fall Fundraiser
Portland is our home. Like so many of you, our families have attended the schools here and witnessed firsthand the daily dedication of educators, bus drivers, school health professionals, cleaning staff, parent volunteers, lunchroom staff, and so many countless others. Schools here are a community that comes together around the central goal of improving children’s lives for the future, which all begins with adequate nutrition.
Currently, 1 in 4 Oregonians are food insecure. Pre-COVID, Oregon’s general population food insecurity rate reflected that 1 in 10 Oregonians were struggling to put food on the table. While Oregon recently signed into effect the Student Success Act - which puts us further than any other state to create Hunger-Free Schools - there is still much work to do.
Partners for a Hunger-Free Oregon and Hunger-Free Schools continuously work to bridge the gap between children and nutrition - even during summer months and the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic. Learn more about the important work they do.
WE BELIEVE IN HUNGER-FREE SCHOOLS
Every summer, we call upon our Portland-area neighbors to recycle their fallen and unwanted backyard fruit to our Fruit Forward Drive as part of our annual PDX Community Cider fundraiser program. Our Drive takes donated edible fruit and turns it into a community cider to raise funds for Partners for a Hunger-Free Oregon.
Thanks to the kindness of the collective community, we collected over 1,000 bushels in 2021 – 41,000 pounds – of apples, fruits, and berries. Our largest collection to date, every piece of fruit is showcased in our 2021 batch of PDX Community Cider.
ANTICIPATE RAISING $13,500 IN 2021
This Fall, we’ll donate a portion of proceeds for Portland Cider Co. purchases at local retailers. This includes 10% of all PDX Community Cider sales, plus $2 from every Portland Cider Co. 6-pack case sold during the month of October.
Giving back is as easy as buying your favorite cider. Pay it ‘Fruit Forward’ with every purchase and support the cause to end childhood hunger. Track down a Portland Cider Co. 6-pack near you with our Cider Finder.
Thanks to our distributors Maletis Beverage and Bigfoot Beverage, and our partner retailers, for supporting this fundraising program.
