Kiss 2020 Goodbye! Our Picks for Celebrating NYE at Home

There’s a laundry list of reasons why this year has been a doozy, but one of the most positive things that have come from 2020 is seeing our community rally around and support our great Portland businesses.

Nonetheless, we are excited to ring in the new year on a positive note by celebrating at home with some of our favorite Portland-made goodies.

Perfect 10 Cidermosa.jpeg
  1. Blue Star Donuts’ Cidermosa Kits ($20) - Perhaps the most well-known New Year’s Eve tradition is drinking. If you want to create fun cocktails without the hassle of running to the store, measuring ingredients, and mixing it all up, Blue Star Donuts’ Cidermosa Kits are for you. Festive flavors include Masala Apple, Spiced Cranberry, and Sangria. Each kit comes with either a 16.9 oz or 22 oz bottle of Portland Cider Co. cider and a 12 oz bottle of Blue Star Donuts’ special juice. These are available for pickup at Blue Star Donuts’ Division or Mississippi St. locations with online ordering for store pickup available.

  2. Decor from The Lippman Company (price varies) - Just because we’re partying at home doesn’t mean we’re skipping the decor! They are a third-generation, locally-owned party store that has been serving Portland since 1948. The Lippman Company has all of your NYE party favorites like champagne balloons and new fun pieces for a little extra flair like tiny disco balls

  3. Takeout from SeaSweets Poke Bar ($12+) - Fish dishes are traditional on NYE and are thought to bring good luck in the year ahead because fish only move in one direction - forward. SeaSweets Poke Bar is locally owned by Chef Ian Hung, who learned the art of poke in Hawaii before bringing his knowledge to the PNW. Fun fact - their downtown location is less than half a mile away from Portland Cider House.

  4. Masks from Stubborn Hands ($15)- When the clock strikes midnight, you might be getting a kiss from a loved one, but in true 2020 fashion, make sure you’re outfitted for the occasion with a mask. Silhouetted Hands donates two masks for every one sold, and they have tons of patterns and fabrics from Portland Sunshine featuring raindrops to a raincoat fabric mask. All masks also come with a virus-filtering HEPA filter that can be removed and cleaned.

  5. Grapes and black-eyed peas from Providore Fine Foods ($6+) - Two more food-based New Year's Eve traditions that are quick and easy for good luck are eating exactly 12 grapes at midnight (one grape for every month) and eating black-eyed peas on New Year's Day. Since we can use all the luck we can get heading into 2021, we’re definitely going to be parking in both of these traditions. Providore Fine Foods sells both of these items and even offers ordering ahead online for parking lot pickup or delivery if you don’t want to miss a minute of NYE fun by leaving the house.

  6. Have a Home Cider-bration - Champagne is so last year! Stock up on your favorite year-round ciders at your local store. Or visit us at our pubs to grab our new Blueberry Bourbon Basil cider, taproom exclusive Hot Mulled Cider Kits, or a BRAND NEW cider that’s Bubbly, bright, and perfect for NYE... Get a sneak peak when you order to-go or curbside pickup at either of our locations. We’re just about a week away from the big celebration, so stop in to see us!
